28 Days To Change Your Life

This week, I thought I’d write a post showing what I’m doing for our 28 Days series in church here at Valley. I think the series is awesome. We had a great day in church on Sunday, with loads of people committing to read their Bibles and pray consistently over the next few weeks. I believe that God is really going to bless that kind of thing!

Well, here’s what I’m doing! Maybe you’ll get an idea, or encouragement. Maybe it’s not for you… that’s fine! The whole point of the series is to help individuals connect with God on an individual level… that means you have to be yourself! 🙂

  • My Bible Goal. I’m reading three chapters a day every weekday and four chapters a day on weekends from the HCSB Apologetics Study Bible. I read the study notes and articles as well to help me understand some of the more difficult passages.
  • My Prayer Goal. I’m going to admit it – I’m not a very good pray-er! So for this 28 Days, I’ve just committed to praying for 5-10 minutes after I read the Bible. I ask God to speak to me as I read, then afterwords, I try and give God time to highlight anything I’ve just read more specifically. Then I pray – I worship Him and ask Him for things.
  • My Study Goal. I’ve committed to finishing one book a week (a Christian book) and reading 2-3 pages a day of a type of material I’ve never read before; writings from Early Church Fathers. See pictures for the types of books I’m reading this month. Doing it this way keeps me challenged by forcing me to read out of my comfort zone.
  • My Exercise Goal. I figured that a healthy body is pretty foundational to a health life! So I’ve begun cycling to the office, which for me is now a 12 mile round trip daily. I also play football once a week.

What are your goals for this series? How do you plan to carry on after the series finishes? Do you have any really interesting things you’re doing you want to let us know about? If so, I’d love to read your comments!
