The Final Week: Saturday 4th April, AD 33

(Mt 27:62-66)

While he was alive, Jesus made predictions that on the third day he would rise again. The Jewish authorities recognised this and so requested that security be posted in the tomb to prevent the disciples from stealing the body and hoaxing the resurrection that Jesus predicted.

You see, no one—not the disciples or the authorities—expected an actual resurrection. This is why on Saturday, the disciples were in hiding and why the soldiers were posted to guard the tomb from the disciples trying to steal the body rather than guarding in case an actual resurrection took place.

At this point, it’s pretty safe to say that God only knew what was going to happen. The disciples were clueless. The Romans had dealt with it. The Jews were paranoid of a grave robbery but nothing more.

No one saw Sunday coming…
