Does Prayer Change Anything?

Today as we pray, as part of our Month of Prayer… let me ask you a question.

Does your prayer change anything? Like seriously… do you actually believe that your prayer makes a difference?

You see, I’ve been a Christian for almost 7 years now. I’ve heard many talks (great talks in fact!) about prayer in that time. How to speak to him, how to listen to him, when to speak to Him, when to listen to Him and the difference my prayer can make to not only day to day life but to those times where life throws something unexpected at you.

And I still find myself at times asking “is this even making a difference?”

I believe it is. I believe every prayer you speak, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.

Several years ago my Mum found herself in a position where both her children were struggling with different issues (some glaringly obvious, some she wasn’t even aware of until many years later… sorry again Mum!) and both were far from Jesus. She always encouraged us, believed the best in us, disciplined us when we needed it but much more than that…she prayed for us. Her secret weapon.

It says in Matthew 6:6 “but when you pray, go to your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. And your Father who sees what you do in private, will reward you.”

Mum didn’t hide the fact that she prayed. Sometimes she would pray with us; in fact I can still recite the prayer she taught me when I was 7 years old and that she prayed with me every night (bar a few years where I was far too busy/cool/insert word here) right up until the night before my wedding. She didn’t hide her love for Jesus, nor did she hide her prayer life. She would go in to her room, close the door and talk to Jesus often.

However, that isn’t all she would do. It came to light in later years that she would actually go into our bedrooms, close the door and pray to her Father in Heaven for us. She would pray for us; asking, begging even, for a breakthrough, for a solution, for healing, for something, for anything! Sometimes she had loads of faith, sometimes she didn’t. But she prayed. She asked God to save her children and for us to know Him personally.

My Mum had no idea how much her prayers could change something and make a difference. Now every Sunday she gets to see her babies with their arms raised high in surrender to Jesus…

“And your Father who sees what you do in private, will reward you.” What a reward! Lives transformed!

So let me ask again, do you dare to believe your prayers make a difference?
