Outdo One Another In Showing Honour

Valley Church
Just this past Sunday, my big brother Richard Scholes, who is planting a church in Morecambe, came to preach for us at Ribble Valley Church. He left commenting on the responsiveness and passion of the congregation (well done guys!).
It reminded me of the verse in Mark 6:4 ‘And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household’. Now, Richard used to work in this neck of the woods alongside Ps Ed. I grew up with him as my older brother! If there was a church where people were familiar with him, it would be ours…
YET, I was so happy at the HONOUR shown to him as the man of God, bringing the Word of God in what was basically his hometown, surrounded by people who are close friends and even family. It was a great message and you can get it here.
Let’s continue to show honour to each other, as it says in Romans 12:10 ‘Outdo one another in showing honour’, so that familiarity is never given a foothold and that we can come with fresh eyes, never taking for granted the goodness of God in our lives. Showing honour will help you remain grateful, which will make you happier, which will make you more effective for the Kingdom of God.
