Welcome To My Home

Valley Church

Valley Church

This is a guest post from Pete Sharp, who is part of our team pioneering in the North East.

I love that I can call Valley Church “HOME”. A home where I can relax and just be me. A home where you can have fun, laugh a lot and build memories with family. A home where you can cry and family will come around you, support you and encourage you. A home where love can grow and be found.

It’s a place where I met Jesus for the first time and my life was changed forever. I’m still in awe of what Jesus has done for me and that “WOW” has never left me, leaving an immeasurable gratitude in my heart and a desire for others to know Jesus.

I remember when I first started coming to Valley, I was sat on the loo and noticed that the loo roll had been prepared for my visit, it was turned the right way around and the end of the roll had been shaped into a V shape, just like you get in fancy hotels. On the way home I mentioned to my wife, “Can you believe that ‘Church’ has better loo roll than we have at home?” We did chuckle!

As a Church, we prepare our building for new people, for people whose eyes haven’t been opened by Jesus yet, who might not have a family, who might not have somewhere that they can call a home and who might still judge a place or people by the quality of their loo roll.

When I look at what Jesus has done for me at the cross, that single act of sacrifice, the ultimate “I’m all in” sacrifice and what that gives each one of us, my heart shouts with gratitude, “What can I do for you Jesus?” This isn’t repayment, it’s an outpouring of gratitude that will continue to flow and is why I do things. (I call this my ‘why’ and I always go back to the ‘why’).

Building His kingdom is building a home for all, a place where hope can be found in the house, a house where God can and does transform lives, a house that you feel welcome in, a house that becomes a place where you can call home.

Do you think about your ‘why’, and would you like to help in building His kingdom?

If so, come join us on our next work night, where we are building a home where we love God, love life and love people. No matter what your gifts and skills are, all are welcome and if all you can do is press a V shape into the end of a loo roll to make people stop and think that there is something different about this place, then you are just right for the job!
