What About The Church?

Dave Scholes

Dave Scholes

The Church is a vital part of every Christian’s life. In fact, if you are a Christian you are already a part of the Church. Why? Because that is what it means to be a Christian. The Church simply means “called out ones”, those who have been called out of darkness and into light, out of death and into life, out of sin and into righteousness. The Church is the people. So if you’re a Christian, welcome to the part you have to play in the Church! This is because the Church is not a building, it is a family of believers; it is all the people whom God has forgiven and adopted into His family.

And just like you can’t play in the Premier League without playing for a team, this means that every Christian (every member of the Church), should attend, serve and be involved in a local church. There is a distinction between local church (little ‘c’) and the Church (big ‘C’). The local church is the physical reality of the Church. And so, going to church is as much a part of your Christian life as reading the Bible, prayer and worship.

Some people say, “I love Jesus, but not the church”. Unfortunately these people have missed something vital; that if you love Jesus, you love what He loves. The Bible says that Jesus loves the church so much that he laid down His very life for it. If it’s that important to Jesus, shouldn’t it be that important to us? You cannot separate your faith in Christ from your involvement in a local church. The local church is the only hope of the world because it leads the world to Christ, and the benefits of being connected to that community are huge: friendships, belonging, teaching, encouragement, support and so much more.
