Who Is Jesus?

Dave Scholes
The Bible says in the gospel of John that Jesus is the “Word made flesh”, who put on flesh and “dwelt among us”. This phrase was a Greek way of saying that he is the Meaning of Life. And in Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he calls Jesus the “image of the invisible God”.
This means that Jesus is the meaning of life, who lived among us and who reveals God to us. There is no eternal significance to our lives without Jesus, there is no ultimate meaning or purpose of existence without Jesus. And this Jesus, 2000 years ago, put on flesh, became a human being, left Heaven, and the perfect Son of God lived a life like you and I get to live. He grew up and developed in “wisdom and stature”, he got a job as an apprentice with his earthly dad as a carpenter. He learned the scriptures in the temple and taught them too. On the outside, Jesus looked like a normal man. However, he was and is so much more than that. He is the “image of the invisible God”, which means that if you want to know what God is like, you look at Jesus.
Jesus said that he was “the way, the truth and the life”, and it is said that “no one can come to the Father” except through him. Jesus reveals our true meaning and purpose in life, he reveals God to us, and he alone provides the means for our salvation, which means we can once again be in a perfect relationship with God because of Jesus. Thanks to Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we can access God, which we would never have been able to do otherwise. It is all about Jesus, and there is no other name that saves than his.
